Iwan Thomas MBE BSc (Hons) (Patron & Founder)
Iwan Thomas is one of the finest 400m runners that Britain has produced and is current British Record Holder as well as being a former European and Commonwealth champion, and World Cup Winner.
He entered the international athletics scene in 1992 representing Britain in the 4x400m relay team at the World Junior Championships, and after setting 9 Welsh 400m records was selected for the British 400m relay team that won Gold at the European Cup in 1995.
At the age of just 22, Iwan was selected for the Olympic Games in Atlanta where he came 5th in the individual 400m and won a Silver medal in the 4x400m relay. Further Gold and Silver medals at the European Cup and World Championships respectively, were topped in 1998 with Grand Prix victories, 2 Gold medals at the European Championships in Budapest, World Cup Champion in South Africa and culminating in becoming Commonwealth Champion in Kuala Lumpar.
Iwan is keen to utilise his success in the sport of athletics to enhance the lives of local children and help them achieve their own goals. Sprint-start is the beginning of his future as he slows down his athletics career.
Kim Chesterfield MCSP SRP (Founder)
Kim has been a qualified chartered physiotherapist for 20 years and has worked closely within sport and fitness for the last 15 years. She is a keen sportsperson participating in many different types of sport and exercise and utilises this to support her everyday work.
She runs a very successful multi-disciplinary physiotherapy and fitness clinic near Southampton which has developed over the last 10 years.
Kim has attended many major sporting events including the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens as team physiotherapist to the British Sailing Team.
Kim has a great belief in exercise and healthy eating as an essential part of a balanced lifestyle and for the relief of stress and is keen to see Sprint-start bring this to philosophy to everyone.
Pete Green
Pete works as an educational consultant, both independently and for organisations such as the National College for School Leadership. Experience in this field has been gained from significant school leadership posts, the last ten years as a secondary school headteacher.
Pete trained originally as a Physical Education teacher and taught PE for the earlier part of his school career. He has always maintained a key interest in sport, particularly cricket, and spent several years managing county schools cricket teams and later supporting young cricketers involved in the Hampshire Academy.
Having relinquished the time consuming demands of headship, Pete now intends to make good use of his knowledge and experience of education and of working with children and young people. Taking on the role of a trustee for the Sprint-Start Sports Foundation is regarded as an exciting opportunity.
Michaela McCallum
Michaela is a Physiotherapist specialising in Sports Injuries and also a mother of 2 boys (13 and 10 yrs). Michaela is former International marathon runner, with a personal best of 2h38. She is now retired from competitive running but very involved with Winchester Athletic Club and led the Club campaign which saw Winchester get a new track in 2008. Michaela organises the junior section of the Winchester Athletics Club which has grown from 20 to 200 children in the past 3 years.
She has high hopes of creating a role model for other clubs to follow of encouraging mass participation in athletics through to elite performance. One personal sporting goal remains which is to complete the Marathon Des Sables 2009! Michaela was delighted to be asked to be a trustee of Sprint Start Sports Foundation.
Jason Dodd
Jason Dodd retired from football in 2006 after an illustrious career, the vast majority of which was spent at Southampton, where he was club captain. He played 399 league games for Southampton (nearly 500 in total including cup matches) over 16 years at the club, scoring 9 goals.
He was part of the Southampton team that made it to the 2003 FA Cup final but missed the game due to a foot injury.
Jason was capped 8 times by England at Under 21 level.
Since retiring from playing, Jason has spent time managing Eastleigh Football Club before returning to St Mary’s to become first team coach in 2007.
Graham Holland
A Chartered Surveyor by profession and a specialist in commercial property, but also a passionate believer in the advantages and benefits of involvement in sport at all levels and at all ages.
Graham is a Director of Lambert Smith Hampton the UK's largest national property consultancy.
His professional career has revolved around South Hampshire and Southampton in particular for the last 30 years and although Graham’s career in local club rugby was prematurely ended by injury, he has retained an interest through involvement with Winchester RFC and over the last 5 or 6 seasons through coaching mini rugby. His group, now U12's, have been winners of the Hampshire Tournament 3 out of the last 4 years. Graham has organised a successful touch rugby competition for the local property industry over the last three years, but his only participation in sport is my weekly Saturday morning round of golf!
As a former Chairman of Southampton Round Table and President of the High Street Association, Graham has had much community and charity involvement over the years and is currently a representative on the LSH Corporate Social Responsibility Forum and also a Community Governor for St John's Infant and Nursery School in the centre of Southampton.
Caroline Smith
A Sales Director for Virgin Media Business Services and a passionate squash player at the Trojans Squash Club. In her business life Caroline has been in the Telecoms and Broadcast Industry for the last 20 years and during her time at BT she was part of the drive to get more women into engineering being one of the first lady engineers on the south coast. Today she manages a Sales Team selling business solutions to other network carriers such as BT, C&W and has very sound commercial acumen.
Caroline has in the past been heavily involved in Hampshire Ladies Squash representing the county on several occasions. These days Caroline restricts her squash to playing at and for her clubs ladies team. She also appreciates the importance fitness and nutrition has on everything we face in life.
Being a mother of eight year old Ben she understands the challenges that parents today have with all the things available to children.
Caroline is extremely pleased to be able to offer her experience and energy to Sprint Start.
